How the dividend calculation works

The calculator multiplies shares by annual dividend per share to estimate income. Payment amount is the annual income divided by the payment frequency. Future-year income applies the dividend-growth assumption you enter.

Core formula

Annual income = shares x annual dividend per share

Dividend yield = annual dividend per share / share price

Payment amount = annual income / payments per year

Input definitions

Shares
The number of shares used to calculate income.
Share price
The price used to calculate position value and dividend yield.
Annual dividend per share
The total dividend expected per share over one year.
Frequency
How many payments the annual dividend is divided into.
Dividend growth
A scenario assumption for how annual dividends change over time.

Worked example

If you own 100 shares and the stock pays $2.00 per share annually, estimated annual dividend income is $200. If payments are quarterly, each payment is $50 before taxes. A dividend-growth assumption changes future income rows, but it does not claim the company will raise its dividend.

Dividend calculator FAQ

How do you calculate dividend income?

Dividend income equals shares owned times annual dividend per share. Payment amount divides that annual income by the selected payment frequency.

Can the calculator load ticker dividend data?

Yes, when public AlgovestIQ data is available for the ticker. The loaded values should still be reviewed because calculator outputs remain based on the active assumptions shown on the page.

Is dividend growth guaranteed?

No. Dividend growth is a user-entered scenario assumption. Companies can raise, hold, reduce, or suspend dividends.

What is dividend yield?

Dividend yield is annual dividend per share divided by share price, expressed as a percentage.
