Salesforce reported a stronger fiscal second quarter, with revenue above the high end of its constant-currency guidance, accelerating current remaining performance obligations, and a $300M increase to its full-year revenue outlook. The underlying story was continued momentum in Slack, Agentforce and Data 360, while management also pointed to near-record-low attrition and improved contract terms as support for a second-half organic growth reacceleration.
The outlook raise was not entirely organic: $200M reflects expected contributions from the pending Contentful and Fin acquisitions, while $100M came from Salesforce’s organic business. The investment question is whether AI-related demand can become a sufficiently material and durable contributor to offset continuing license-revenue volatility and support a broader reacceleration in subscription growth.

The Bigger Story
Salesforce used the quarter to argue that AI is expanding, rather than disrupting, demand for its core CRM and collaboration products. The financial evidence cited by management was stronger net new annual contract value growth, low attrition, longer contract terms and growth in Sales, Service and Slack seats.
The company’s AI strategy is evolving beyond selling Agentforce as a standalone product. Management is now positioning AI as an upgrade and consumption opportunity across the Salesforce platform, with premium editions, usage-based credits, unlimited-license agreements and potentially outcome-based pricing all part of the commercial model.
The largest new strategic announcement was Claudeforce, a product developed with Anthropic that combines Claude’s interface and reasoning capabilities with Salesforce data, applications, workflows and permissions. Management said Claudeforce will be generally available in September and will require customers to upgrade to premium editions. That creates an incremental upsell mechanism, although Salesforce did not provide a revenue contribution forecast.
Revenue and Operating Performance
Revenue reached $11.35B, up 11% year over year and above the high end of Salesforce’s constant-currency guidance. Subscription and support revenue, which represented the bulk of total revenue at $10.82B, increased 12% year over year, or 11% in constant currency.
CRPO of $33.5B increased 14% in constant currency, accelerating from the prior quarter and exceeding management’s guidance by one percentage point. That performance was attributed to Slack, Agentforce and Data 360 demand, as well as improved contract duration in both new business and renewals.
Management said first-half net new annual contract value growth significantly outpaced total AOV growth, which it views as the basis for organic revenue reacceleration in the second half. However, Salesforce did not provide the underlying net new AOV figure, making it difficult to assess the magnitude of the improvement from the call alone.
Slack was a particularly important contributor. Management said Q2 Slack net new AOV growth was the fastest since Salesforce acquired the platform. It also said upgrades to premium Slack editions tripled after the launch of Slackbot, which reached 1 million active users five months after launch.
Agentforce and Data 360 were also central to the quarter’s growth narrative. Agentforce ARR reached $1.5B, while AI and data ARR was approaching $4B, according to management. Customers generated 3.2 billion Agentforce workload units during Q2, up 97% sequentially, indicating increased consumption activity among deployed users.
Still, management acknowledged unevenness elsewhere in the portfolio. The headless platform, Data 360 and “other” category benefited from Informatica and Data 360 momentum, but that was partly offset by license-revenue headwinds and volatility in integration and analytics. Marketing showed early signs of recovery, but management said it was too soon to characterize that improvement as sustainable.
Profitability and Margins
Salesforce reported a 34.1% non-GAAP operating margin and a 20.5% GAAP operating margin in Q2. The company did not provide year-over-year margin comparisons on the call, but the results indicate that Salesforce continued to maintain substantial profitability while investing in AI products, sales capacity and acquisitions.
Free cash flow was $1.1B, up 81% year over year. The increase was a notable positive in a quarter where Salesforce is emphasizing investment in AI distribution and premium-product development. Management also reiterated that it expects operating cash flow and free cash flow to grow approximately 4%-5% for FY2027.
The gap between GAAP and non-GAAP operating margin remains material at 13.6 percentage points. Investors should continue to distinguish between the company’s adjusted profitability framework and reported GAAP results, particularly as acquisition activity and share-based compensation can affect the difference between the two measures.
Demand, Customers and Pricing
Management characterized demand as strong, citing record pipeline levels, low attrition and year-over-year seat growth in Agentforce Sales, Service and Slack. It also said contract terms improved across customer segments in both new business and renewals.
The company highlighted several AI deployments, including an expanded multibillion-dollar U.S. Army agreement. Salesforce said the Army Human Resources Command expects to handle up to 55 million Agentforce conversations per month. Salesforce also cited AI expansions at Deutsche Telekom, FIFA, NTT Data and Cisco.
Agentforce IT Service, launched in November, has surpassed 450 customers, according to management. The company said customers including NYU Langone Health and McAfee adopted the product after converting from ServiceNow, although it did not quantify the financial contribution from those wins.
The most consequential commercial development may be Salesforce’s effort to broaden AI monetization. Management said approximately 50% of recent Agentforce bookings came from customers replenishing consumed credits. It also said it added 2,000 paying customers in production during the quarter, up 70% sequentially, and added “hundreds” of consistently consuming agents.
Salesforce is offering several pricing structures, including per-user, per-agent, consumption-based, prepaid credits, overage charges, unlimited-license agreements and outcome-based arrangements. This flexibility could help customers adopt AI services at different stages of deployment, but it also makes the eventual revenue model less transparent. Management has not yet disclosed how these models compare in terms of pricing, margins, retention or revenue recognition.
Management said customers that have begun their “agentic journey” with Salesforce have, on average, doubled AOV and could ultimately reach three to four times prior AOV. That is a management observation rather than a formal forecast, and the company did not disclose the number of customers, time period or cohort definition behind the claim.
What is Salesforce’s guidance and outlook?
Salesforce raised FY2027 revenue guidance by $300M in constant currency to $46.1B-$46.4B. The raise consists of $100M from organic performance and an expected $200M contribution from the pending Contentful and Fin acquisitions, which management expects to close in the coming weeks.
The company said the organic increase reflects continued momentum in Agentforce, Data 360 and Slack. Those areas are expected to offset continued volatility in license revenue. Salesforce also noted that its updated annual outlook incorporates a $100M foreign-exchange headwind relative to prior guidance.
Management now expects subscription and support revenue growth slightly above 12% year over year, and slightly below 12% in constant currency, for FY2027. It maintained non-GAAP operating margin guidance of approximately 34.3% and updated GAAP operating margin guidance to approximately 20.1%.
For Q3, Salesforce expects revenue of $11.42B-$11.5B, representing approximately 11%-12% constant-currency growth. It expects CRPO growth of approximately 14% in constant currency. The Q3 outlook does not include incremental revenue from Contentful or Fin because the transactions had not yet closed when guidance was issued.
Management reiterated that organic growth should reaccelerate in the second half, with Q3 described as largely supported by the existing AOV-to-revenue conversion. The company plans to provide a broader FY2028 framework at its Dreamforce Investor Day.
Balance Sheet, Cash Flow and Capital
Salesforce generated $1.1B in Q2 free cash flow and continues to return capital through its $25B accelerated share repurchase program. Management expects the program to repurchase at least 14% of shares outstanding and said repurchases completed so far were made at an average price of $176 per share.
The company did not provide quarter-end cash, debt or net-debt figures on the call. It also did not disclose the purchase prices, financing structure or expected margin impact of the Contentful and Fin transactions. Those details will matter as the acquisitions move from expected contributions to reported financial results.
Management also said it plans to hire another 1,200 account executives before year-end, bringing its sales force to roughly 15,000 AEs. The additional distribution capacity supports the AI upsell strategy but also raises the execution bar: Salesforce will need sustained productivity from a larger field organization to preserve its operating-margin targets.
What Investors Should Watch
1. Organic Growth After the Acquisition Contribution
The FY2027 revenue raise includes $200M from Contentful and Fin, compared with $100M from organic operations. Investors should focus on whether Slack, Agentforce and Data 360 can sustain the promised second-half organic reacceleration independently of acquired revenue.
2. Agentforce Conversion From Production to Recurring Consumption
Salesforce added 2,000 paying customers in production and reported rapid growth in AWUs. The key next step is whether these deployments produce repeat credit purchases, larger platform contracts and durable recurring revenue rather than isolated pilot or implementation activity.
3. Premium-Edition Upgrades
Management said only 5% of knowledge workers using Sales and Service have upgraded to higher-end editions, which carry a stated 60%-80% premium. Broader premium adoption would support the case that AI is increasing the value of Salesforce’s installed base, but the company has not yet disclosed a sustained conversion rate.
4. Claudeforce Commercial Adoption
Claudeforce is expected to be generally available in September. Its customer reception, sales enablement and relationship with Anthropic will be closely watched, particularly because Salesforce is presenting it as a new interface that can unlock value from existing platform data and workflows.
5. License-Revenue and Integration Volatility
Management said ongoing license-revenue pressure and volatility in integration and analytics partly offset growth in newer products. Continued weakness in those areas could limit the degree of top-line acceleration even if AI-related offerings scale.
AlgovestIQ Takeaway
Salesforce’s Q2 results provided evidence that its core subscription model remains resilient amid concerns that generative AI could weaken traditional enterprise software demand. Revenue exceeded the company’s guidance range, CRPO growth accelerated to 14% in constant currency, and management pointed to low attrition, longer contract terms and stronger net new AOV growth.
The quarter also showed that Salesforce’s AI business is becoming more commercially relevant. Agentforce ARR reached $1.5B, workload-unit consumption nearly doubled sequentially, and half of recent Agentforce bookings reportedly came from customers replenishing used credits. Slack’s rapid premium-edition upgrades and the adoption of Slackbot offer another path to monetize AI across the installed base.
However, the AI revenue opportunity is still developing. Salesforce is using a broad range of pricing structures, from seat-based subscriptions to credits and outcome-based agreements, and has not disclosed enough cohort data to show which models produce the most durable economics. Claims that AI customers can eventually reach three to four times their prior AOV remain management commentary rather than a demonstrated company-wide trend.
The guidance increase is constructive but should be viewed in context. One-third of the $300M constant-currency increase is organic, while two-thirds depends on the anticipated Contentful and Fin closings. Salesforce must also navigate ongoing volatility in license revenue, integration and analytics.
The central question is no longer whether Salesforce can sell AI products, but whether AI can drive enough premium upgrades, consumption growth and broader platform spending to meaningfully accelerate organic growth while preserving margins. Evidence of repeat Agentforce consumption, premium-edition adoption, successful Claudeforce launches and sustained CRPO growth would strengthen that case. Slower conversion of AI deployments into larger contracts, or renewed weakness in the core portfolio, would challenge it.
